1. Problem: What am I empathizing with?
This project started with a curiosity for how we can create empathy in design. At the beginning, I was trying to find a way to make people behave better because I thought creating empathy in design could do that. As I went through the series of events, my question was changed to how I can create a design that helps people empathize with each other as a designer.
2. Research & Insight
After I defined the problem, I started to research general ideas that people have about "sleep." According to Google Trends, users who searched for "sleep" searched for sleep methods such as relaxing music. These results showed that most people who have searched the term have tried some methods to sleep better.
Based on the interviews, I created a current state of a user journey map that described pain points most current users experience. The current state of the user journey map was based on personas, which were categorized by the characteristics of interviewees.
One of the interesting insights was most people use traditional ways, such as drinking hot tea or darkening their room, to fall asleep rather than using devices or applications. Another interesting insight was most people put some effort into a good night's sleep before they went to sleep.
3. IDEATION
Most sleep-related applications focus on analyzing and tracking users' sleep patterns while they are sleeping or use sounds that wake them up or help them to go to sleep. Based on the market research, I found that there is an opportunity to segment my application to the position that gives personalized advice and focuses on the moments BEFORE the users go to sleep.
4. PROTOTYPING & TESTING
The low-fidelity prototype user testing helped me improve the flow of an application. In this step, I decided to use 3 functions - Sleep Coach, Perfect Bedding, and Smart Devices - as the main functions.
After the second user testing, I decided to segment my idea to the position that gives personalized advice and focuses on the moments BEFORE the users go to sleep.

5. FINAL DESIGN
1. SLEEP COACH
Sleep Coach is designed to improve the sleep environment BEFORE going to sleep. If you turn on the Sleep Coach mode, it will check the sleeping environment.
2. PERFECT BEDDING
Perfect Bedding analyzes the preference of beddings and recommends beddings that fit users based on the records and information they provided.
3. SMART DEVICES
Smart Devices is for helping users easily control their devices that use WiFi or Bluetooth BEFORE they go to sleep. Users can control their devices without going out of their beds if their sleep environment is out of their optimized environment.
